Current Exhibits

On display in the Depot building, you can still discover some of the old post office boxes and desks, complete with period post cards and stamps..

But with these permanent displays, there are also temporary displays.  Currently the Depot front lobby has pictures from previous July 4rth celebrations.  Near the back is a collection of Who's Who including 3 doctors, 2 Nobel prize winners, and a drunken cowboy.

Clem Post Office

Ca: 1884-1937

Established November 24, 1884, and was named for Clemens A. Danneman, an early settler in Gilliam County who owned a ranch and provided accommodation for travelers through the area. This post office was located near the Condon spur of the Union Pacific Rail Road in Scott Canyon. 
The office was discontinued on March 31, 1937.

Mayville Post Office

Ca: 1884-1987

Mayville is 13 miles south of Condon; the post office was established Oct 3, 1884 in what was then Wasco County. Mayville’s original name was Clyde, named after the only businessman there before the 1880’s, the name was changed to Mayville at the time the post office was being built. 
The first postmaster was Samuel Thurston.
It was converted to a rural station of the Fossil post office on May 31, 1958
It was discontinued March 31, 1987.

Lonerock Post Office

Ca: 1875-1963

Established November 8, 1875. This post office was located in the southeastern corner of Gilliam County on Lone Rock Creek. The office was discontinued on July 5, 1963. 
Lonerock town is named for the large rock which stands about 100 feet high and measures some 60 feet in diameter. The spelling of Lone Rock was changed to Lonerock on October 4, 1894.

Mikkalo Post Office

Ca: 1907-1989

Located 16 miles north of Condon is the town of Mikkalo which was formed in 1905 and named for settler John Mikkalo.
The post office opened on July 12, 1907. It was nestled in the front corner of the Mikkalo grocery store and had 60 boxes; in 1976 only 14 were in use. 
It was discontinued sometime in 1989, when the store closed down.
